Keep an eye on city charges

By Letter to the Editor on February 21st, 2020

The City of Medicine Hat has put a Municipal Consent and Access Fee (MCAF) on utility bills; this line item first appeared November 2016 with a zero amount and became an ongoing charge on January 2019. Municipalities charge electricity and gas providers for access to city land and infrastructure. For example, the City of Calgary ... Read More »

Enough is enough, the demonstrations are crossing the line, breaking the law

By Letter to the Editor on February 19th, 2020

I have never had any issues with peaceful demonstrations or protests across our great country. Things like picket lines, peaceful demonstrations, etc. have always been useful for us to get our concerns heard. A lot of these demonstrations/protests are going over the line and starting to impact the livelihood of many Canadians. I have a ... Read More »

Changes need to be made at Medicine Hat hospital

By Letter to the Editor on February 19th, 2020

In 2012 a wing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital was closed. When the addition to the hospital was built I recall arrangements were made with seniors’ facilities that had extra (respite) beds to send patients to them and also in some cases to St. Joseph’s. What about the general public? The new addition has ... Read More »

It’s no wonder province, feds are in the mess they’re in

By Letter to the Editor on February 19th, 2020

So between myopic left and right wing think tanks, politicians who waste their time and our money trading hypocritical cheap shots, is it no wonder that Alberta is in such a mess and the feds are not much better. More than 20 years ago the provincial government of the time at the bidding of think ... Read More »

‘Bizarre, far-fetched facts’ on coronavirus check out

By Letter to the Editor on February 19th, 2020

There have been a few news bulletins lately on the coronavirus (covid-19) that seem beyond credibility, more like a bad science fiction movie than a world health issue. However, the bizarre, far-fetched facts check out. China has an active biological warfare program. Professor Lieber of Harvard University was found assisting Chinese spying for $50,000 a ... Plenty of doublespeak on gun control

By Letter to the Editor on February 14th, 2020

OK boys and girls, for the umpteenth time, there is no such thing as an assault weapon. This is a term coined by uneducated gun control advocates and their lazy media acolytes. There are weapons designed for law enforcement and the military to be used in an assault, along with non-lethal devices and plain old ... Read More »

Teck Frontier mine a ‘destructive mega-project’

By Letter to the Editor on February 14th, 2020

I don’t want the Teck Frontier to be built. It’s a destructive mega-project that will not only trample Indigenous rights, but also emit six million tonnes of greenhouse gases per year, damage an area of the boreal forest more than twice the size of Vancouver, and threaten unique biodiversity.” We have fewer than 10 years ... Common sense needed on sprinkler subsidy

By Letter to the Editor on February 14th, 2020

Re: “Sprinkler subsidy suggested for Coulee Ridge fire-response issue,” Feb. 11 Coun. Kris Samraj is the only one who got this right by saying a unequivocal “no.” The following points are worth contemplating. l. Guess what? The precedence has been set. Cottonwood, a recent development, also was outside the fire response time. The City of ... Read More »

No one voted for cuts to frontline services

By Letter to the Editor on February 13th, 2020

Promise No. 4 of Jason Kenney’s election platform promised to balance the province’s books “without cutting frontline services.” He’s broken that promise on both fronts. No one voted for cuts to frontline services, but the UCP have already announced the reduction of up to 7,500 health-care workers. Next year we can look forward to fewer ... Read More »

Turns out the negative picture painted by some was completely false

By Letter to the Editor on February 12th, 2020

After listening to several people paint a very negative picture of a local donation facility, I emailed the manager and stated I would no longer donate to his business. He immediately wrote back and dispelled all the misinformation I had heard and believed. Not only did he provide me with actual facts, he offered a ... Read More »

Anti-Christian letters are a sign of the Last Days

By Letter to the Editor on February 12th, 2020

If today’s headlines don’t persuade you we are living in the Last Days, the anti-Christian letters in this newspaper surely will. Case in point: Ray Marco’s “United Conservative Party is showing its Puritan roots” on Jan. 30. I don’t think so. If the UCP needs a denominational analogy, I would suggest “Roman Catholic.” The Puritans ... Read More »
