Parks and Recreation: A love story

By KEZIAH LESKO-GOSSELIN on February 1, 2022.

As Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, some of you may be brainstorming ideas for the perfect date night, feeling compelled to reconnect with a loved one, or interested in meeting someone new. If you’re looking for a rewarding relationship to invest in this year, look no further than one of Medicine Hat’s parks!

People and parks are truly a match made in heaven. Spending as little as two hours a week with the outdoors is proven to boost mental and physical health – and the benefits increase the more time you invest! The chemistry between people and parks is undeniable, and building your relationship with the outdoors will lead to an improved quality of life for years to come.

No matter where you find yourself, or what stage of life you’re in, parks will always be around to help you be your best self. Parks are reliable, always available, and will never cancel plans. Whether you’re interested in a long-term commitment or something more fun and casual, a park will be nearby to help you have fun. Not to mention, they’re usually quite good looking, too!

Depending on your interests, you may be drawn to different parks in and around Medicine Hat.

If you crave adventure, you may be intrigued by Echo Dale Regional Park’s new mountain bike trails. For some playful competition, try a round of frisbee golf in Central or Leinweber Park. If you’re the outdoors type and are looking for something more rugged, Red Rock Coulee or Cypress Hills Provincial Park may pique your interests, and are only a short drive away. If you want to show off your skills on the ice, tie up your skates for some fun at one of Medicine Hat’s outdoor rinks. And if you’re looking for a beautiful sunset stroll to accompany great conversation, you’ll love Parks and Recreation’s lengthy trail system connecting all corners of the city.

The possibilities are endless in Medicine Hat, and the city’s parks are just waiting for you to give them a shot!

So this Valentine’s Day, rather than spending hours on eHarmony searching for the perfect mate, why not find TreeHarmony among the cottonwoods in Police Point Park? Instead of working a Tinder profile, why not light an actual flame in one of Stratchona Park’s fire pits while watching the stars?

Regardless of what you’re looking for, you’ll find fun and enjoyment in one of Medicine Hat’s beautiful parks.
