Medicine Hat News Education students at Medicine Hat College easily surpassed their goal of $1,000 for men’s health during a November fundraiser around the school. That goal was more than doubled, as at last count, $2,131 had been raised. Donations are still being welcomed. Members of the cohort hung posters around their practicum schools and Medicine Hat College, as well as posting on social media platforms in hopes of spreading the word about their challenge. One of the leading reasons the cohort decided to participate in the Movember challenge was to show their level of care and commitment to a worthy cause, which is something they will all strive to teach future children and young adults after graduation. Organizers say a big thank-you is due to everyone who generously donated, participated, and who continue to support the fourth-year education students’ journey throughout the Movember challenge. 7

Education has many purposes. Its primary purpose is to prepare students for the adult world, and give them a grounding in essential skills and abilities to help them navigate. Reading, writing, understanding math and science and physical education are important components, but they aren’t the only ones.
Education is also supposed to give students perspective on what came before and how it impacts life today, and help students learn how to be well-rounded citizens and recognize ways they can change the world.
It’s a lesson that should never stop being taught, no matter how old you become.
