Poutine crawl Sunday kicks off Savour the Southeast Food Festival

Medicine Hat News Savour the Southeast Food Festival in Medicine Hat is back and organizers say it’s bigger and tastier than ever. Tourism Medicine Hat is once again partnering with Verge Economic Development to host the event where local restaurants create dishes that celebrate regional producers, inspired by what is grown and raised in Southeast Alberta. The Poutine Crawl kicks off the week on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Poutine Crawl will travel using Prairie Sprinter to four new participating restaurants. Those who partake will be able to sample mouth watering poutine from Lela’s Place The Chocolate Shop, Heartwood Cafe, Skinny’s Smokehouse and Industry Pub. Next, says a Tourism Medicine Hat press release, Hatters can sample, taste and savour all week! From Nov. 4-10, local restaurants will be creating some incredible local dishes for Savour the Southeast week “and you get to experience a delicious meal knowing that it is supporting our local Southeast Alberta farmers, ranchers and producers.” Each year, this initiative drives hungry traffic through local businesses that feature local producers. The participating restaurants and retailers offer their ‘Savour Special’ to entice consumers to take advantage of this opportunity while learning more about what products are available to them within the region. For locals and visitors alike, Savour the Southeast is more than just a culinary experience. “‘Farm to Fork’ is not just a trend, it can be a way of life,” says Jace Anderson, executive director of Tourism Medicine Hat. “Savour the Southeast aims to increase knowledge of locally made, grown, or developed foods, where they are offered in southeast Alberta, and the benefits of supporting these local companies,” he adds.
