The Lions Club of Medicine Hat has joined forces with the city’s first responders to try to make it a happy Halloween for area youth.

The two groups got together recently to pack up to 400 goodie bags, which will be handed out to any children first responders meet during the Halloween period.

Twenty-seven people — Lions Club members and part of Capt. Ryan Pinter’s Fire Station No. 1 crew — handled the bagging duties.

James Higgins of the Lions Club said this is the second time these groups have joined forces for this project, “which is designed to put children a bit more at ease when dealing with first responders.”

Goodie bags will be handed out by firefighters, Medicine Hat Police Service members, Cypress County firefighters, EMS personnel, those who work at the children’s and emergency wards at the hospital and staff at the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter.
