Not only is the pottery unusual in design and creativity it is an exhibition of pieces by a mother and daughter.

The launch of “Mudder & daughter show” takes place Oct. 19 from 7-10 p.m. at The Clay Trade, 628 Second Street S.E, with artists Dixie Baker and her daughter Dawn Olsen in attendance.

The exhibition will continue through to Nov. 3.

Olson took her first ceramics class at Medalta in 2010 and says she has been passionate about it ever since. She prefers to focus on functional pieces that are also beautiful. She draws inspiration from nature, travel and is fascinated by Moorish patterns and designs.

One of the best parts about her passion is that it allows her to spend more time with her mother, she says.

Baker has been doing pottery for a couple of decades and is influenced by nature and landscapes. She fires her creations in electric, gas or atmospheric kilns. Although most pieces are functional she says she also enjoys one-of-a-kind artistic expressions and calls clay her “canvas.”
