Buy a bowl and help out a couple of Medicine Hat charities.

The Medicine Hat Potters’ Association reached its goal of making 600 bowls to be sold at Saturday’s Downtown Chili Cookoff.

The ceramic bowls, which the purchaser keeps, will be sold for $10 and that price also includes all the chili you can eat.

Proceeds from the bowls sold will be divided between the Salvation Army Hot Meal Program and the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank.

Plainsman Clay, which donated the clay for this project, is also involved in the charitable aspects of this program. The bowl-making involved 60 club members who volunteered hours of time making, prepping, and selling the bowls Saturday.

The cookoff runs from noon until the chili runs out

The city reminds people that because of the Chili Cookoff, Third Street S.E. from Fourth Avenue to South Railway Street S.E. as well as all laneways adjoining this section of road will be closed between 8 a.m. and 5 pm. All avenues will remain open.

Motorists are reminded to obey all posted signs and to take extra caution while driving downtown due to an increase in pedestrian traffic.
