Business Beat: Workforce transformation and future trends events

By Medicine Hat News on September 12, 2018.

APEX Alberta (with the support of Alberta Labour) is presenting three informative events for business and community members starting September 2018. These three events entitled “Emerging Industries & The Future of Work” will be held at the Medicine Hat College.

Our keynote speaker for the first event on Sept. 20 is Linda Nazareth, renowned economist, author and founder of Relentless Economics. Her talk entitled “Work Is Not a Place: Our Lives and Our Organizations in the Post-Jobs Economy” will reveal how economic and global trends are changing. These changes will be the new drivers to push companies towards a need to be increasingly competitive.

Nazareth will unpack some of the mystery behind these economic changes and shifting demographics. She will explain how technology trends are careening us into a world for which we may not be ready. She will break down the symbiotic relationship between the economy and the workplace and how it will evolve in the future.

How will technology and the fourth industrial revolution be a threat to jobs and how reduced demand for labour will drive a need for certain skills in this new economy. Nazareth will explain what we need to understand to take charge of our future and will explore what forces are re-shaping the labor market as these changes will impact individuals, businesses and governments.

Be prepared to learn about why it might be best to think about “work” or “talent” rather than “jobs” and why the place that work takes place will be shifting and changing. How will these transformations affect jobs today and in the future and will we be ready to navigate these changes? What are the trends at play? How should you and your organization position yourselves for what is ahead?
