Living life to the fullest

By Letter to the Editor on February 10th, 2018

The phrase I hate the most is the “struggle with mental illness.” Life is a struggle. That is how we learn. I am not minimizing mental illness but it teaches us certain things. It teaches us to take each moment as it comes. To ride the rollercoaster. I do not miss my life before I ... Read More »

Solution: Build refineries in Alberta

By Letter to the Editor on February 9th, 2018

To make up for the insult Albertans felt from his father, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should not approve the Trans Mountain bitumen pipeline to B.C. but help build refineries in Alberta to ship cleaner product. Alberta would get jobs and revenue, Kinder Morgan still gets business and praise for a cleaner pipeline, and B.C. keeps ... Read More »

Column a ‘misstatement of facts’

By Letter to the Editor on February 9th, 2018

Re: “So sorry, but I am not sorry,” Jan. 22 I read Mr. McLennan’s column and want to point out a few “facts.” Mr. McLennan’s sense of self-importance is not buttressed by law. I could not find any reference to his “comfort” in Canadian law but can find many dealing with equal treatment and equal ... Read More »

Can’t change or defend truth about res. schools

By Letter to the Editor on February 9th, 2018

Re: “So sorry, but I am not sorry,” Jan. 22 Paul McLennan’s recent column is a sad litany of bleak, cold, disaffected and self-satisfiedly ignorant statements about social justice issues in Canada. None of his statements seem to have had the benefit of any thought or ideas reaching beyond the 1950s, particularly his statements regarding ... Read More »

Strong voice for silent majority

By Letter to the Editor on February 9th, 2018

Paul McLennan should be commended for his columns regarding life from a conservative perspective. I also take a strong stand against political correctness. Mr. McLennan has to be considered a strong voice for the silent majority. Tom Waters Medicine Hat... Read More »

Patients will suffer from AHS mistakes

By Letter to the Editor on February 8th, 2018

Alberta Health Services has once again dropped the ball in Medicine Hat. They have done so numerous times regarding the new addition to our hospital. First there was the water quality issue, which resulted in many delayed surgeries. Next up the roof-top helicopter landing area; it’s still not functional. Transportation Canada informed them a secondary ... Read More »

Prophecies ambiguous to the point of absurdity

By Letter to the Editor on February 7th, 2018

Re: “Obeying the Gospel is life changing,” Jan. 2 Firstly, I would challenge you to put forth even a handful of prophecies, let alone hundreds, that are not ambiguous to the point of absurdity and that have not been interpreted in so many ways over the last 20 centuries as to be logically useless, simply ... Fascinated by Comments page writers

By Letter to the Editor on February 7th, 2018

Re: “Political leaders must exhibit higher standards,” Jan. 29 I started writing this letter to the editor to commend Jeremy Appel on his editorial. I was going to write things like “How can anyone so young exhibit such wisdom.” But then I again realized that there are quite a few very talented, skilled, capable and ... Read More »

A grumpy old man, but with a sense of humour

By Letter to the Editor on February 6th, 2018

Re: “Opinions are not facts,” Jan. 27 I always love it when Mr. Mueller responds to my columns because he invariably provides evidence to support the opinions I express. I often say those on the left would much prefer to suppress rather than discuss, dare I say over coffee, opinions that they do not agree ... Read More »

Questioning PM Harper’s ‘fiscally prudent eye’

By Letter to the Editor on February 3rd, 2018

In his Jan. 19 MLA Report in the News, Drew Barnes states that former PM Stephen Harper had “a steady fiscally prudent eye on our hard-earned tax dollars” and he provided “less debt liability for future generations.” The facts seem to indicate otherwise. Over PM Harper’s 10 years in office (Feb./06 to Nov./15) the federal ... Read More »

Columnist ‘personification of white privilege’

By Letter to the Editor on February 3rd, 2018

Re: “So sorry, I am not sorry,” Jan. 22 What struck me about Mr. McLennan’s column was the absolute arrogance with which he espoused on matters about which he is blatantly ignorant. It would serve him to read and understand the Constitution and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which he claims gives him the ... Read More »
