I’ve been working at the Esplanade for several years now and one thing I never feel is bored! I’ve been lucky enough not only to work in a few different roles in my time here, but being where I am today, promoting all the amazing events, experiences and exhibitions each one of my colleagues is working on makes me feel like I’m in the middle of all the action!

It’s easy to be excited about the next big offer we have lined up for our community, and there’s always something new! There’s a certain buzz of excitement being a part of all the hard work and energy that goes into the planning and execution that makes our offerings come to fruition.

In the past couple of years we have been expanding into new spaces, adding Co-op Place as a venue into the mix, putting art in unexpected places like Police Point Park and the two outdoor downtown festivals we organized last year, Art in Motion and Together Again. I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished.

The excitement of course doesn’t end there, I’m looking forward to what’s to come!

In August we have a particularly busy weekend planned in the middle of the month. We start off on Saturday, Aug. 12 with our newest Historic Walking Tour on First Street SW in the morning followed by our usual gallery hours from 12-5 p.m. With no time to spare, then it’s time to get ready for the sold-out Dueling Pianos event on the terrace that night! That’s usually when we would wrap it up for the weekend but not this time. On Sunday, Aug. 13 we have something totally new for you to experience with In Time. If you love puzzles, escape rooms and a bit of adventure with live character actors then this event is for you! Your quest will be to decipher clues and conquer a series of tasks as you navigate your way through the Esplanade and Historic Ewart Duggan House. Register your group of family or friends by visiting http://www.tixx.ca.

I of course saved the best for last. We had so much fun bringing our community together downtown last year, we had do it again! This year’s event will be on Saturday, Sept. 16. We’re bringing together elements we loved from last year like live music, a beer garden and lots of family fun activities along with some new additions we’re excited to include like the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards and the SHINE multicultural celebration by Saamis Immigration.

It’s going to be a phenomenal day to be downtown. Stay tuned for all the fun details to come!
