Jason Higdon was arrested by police Saturday July 27, 2019, eight days after the MHPS started looking for him.

A man arrested after police put out a public notice seeking his apprehension made his first court appearance Thursday on a trifecta of charges.

Jason Higdon, 36, faces charges of flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a vehicle and possessing stolen property.

He appeared in provincial court via closed-circuit TV from the Medicine Hat Remand Centre, where duty counsel Ian Baird acknowledged Higdon faces some “fairly serious charges.”

The Crown elected to proceed by way of indictment for the possession of stolen property charge, which relates to a stolen car he is alleged to have been driving.

An indictment election means he could face time in custody if found guilty.

His matters were adjourned to Aug. 7 to allow him time to seek a lawyer.

Police put out a news release on July 17 to publicly announce Higdon was wanted, after he had refused to pull over in a Ford-150 police say they knew was stolen.

At the time, the cops said they didn’t pursue him due to public safety concerns.

After his arrest over the weekend, Staff-Sgt. Ryan Thorburn told the News, “He was hiding quite well, but we got him.”
