The Medicine Hat Police Service announced the arrest of 36-year-old Jason Higdon Saturday, eight days after publicly announcing that he was wanted by police.

Police sent out a release on July 19 stating that officers had attempted to stop a Ford F-350 they knew was stolen, but the vehicle failed to stop. Police did not pursue due to concerns for public safety. Police called more units to the area of the vehicle but the driver continued to operate the vehicle dangerously through neighbourhoods. Higdon was identified as the driver of the vehicle.

Higdon, a resident of the Hat, is facing charges of flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possessing stolen property.

Staff Sgt. Ryan Thorburn says the search took longer than expected, but police are happy the suspect is in custody.

“We were actually investigating another matter with another individual when we informed that he was in the same location we were looking into,” he said. “We had to get authorization from Justice of the Peace to enter a residence with a Feeney warrant to apprehend him.

“He was hiding quite well, but we got him.”
