On May 8, Canada Post issued a postage stamp featuring His Majesty King Charles III. The stamp itself was issued in a booklet of stamps in the “P” permanent (domestic rate). The printing process was lithography in two colours. A first day of issue special envelope was also issued at this time. The photograph featured on the Official First Day Cover was taken by Justin Tang in Ottawa during Charles’ most recent tour in 2022 as part of the Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations. I find it quite remarkable that this is the first time that Charles has been featured on a Canadian stamp. He has world renown for his advocacy and support of hundreds of environmental and social issues. As such he has been featured on stamps from most Commonwealth Nations as well as numerous other countries indicating his patronage of these organizations. As well many countries had issued sets of stamps featuring his marriage to Princess Diana and all the related pomp and ceremony. I would like to use a quote which was used in the May issue of the Canada Post Details magazine. Speaking in Winnipeg during the 1996 Royal Tour, His Majesty King Charles III (then Prince of Wales) said, “Every time I come to Canada … a little more of Canada seeps into my bloodstream. And from there, straight to the heart.” For more information about the hobby of stamp collecting please visit a meeting of the Medicine Hat Coin and Stamp Club.
