medhatcsc@live.com I hope everyone is off to an excellent new year, and I hope 2020 is just as exciting in the coin world as it was last year. I would like to take the time to review some of the coins that came out in 2019. The year started out with the normal releases of Birthday, Oh Canada, Baby and Wedding sets, holding the same price as year before. The $10 Baby Footprint coin again was a very popular coin, followed by the Celebration of Love and the $20 Wedding coin. The silver dollar 75th Anniversary of D-Day was sold as a single and in the Premier Proof set. A 12-coin outdoor fun set had some interesting coins. Viola Desmond was featured on $20 silver coin and also came in a set with the $10 bill. The Specimen set featured the Pileated woodpecker on the loon. Another egg shaped $20 coin came out. The three-coin $0.50 Dinosaur set was very popular with the kids. The three-coin set for the Fauna set had some really colourful animals. In April the regular Proof set came out with a different black and white setting on it. The $8 gold-plated Panda coin was very popular. The circulation loony had a new design representing Equality, and also with that was the colour $10 coin. The CN Train was a very attractive coin and caught the eye of a lot of people. The $3 Juno coin and $5 Flag coins were used for a lot of gifts. Another great gift was the colour and non-colour $2 D-Day set. These two types of toonies were also in circulation. The five-coin $0.50 young animal set was also very popular. The Canadian Icons set was also popular with the kids. The third year for the all colour classic Proof set sold with in a month of being released. Another coin for the kids was the $0.25 Transformer coin in descriptive folder. Another Ghost coin came out depicting Spooky Canada. In December the Raptors featured a 25-cent coin and a $25 coin. The $0.25 Icon of Space Travel featuring the space shuttle on the coin was very eye catching. To finish off the year the Mint produced a very detailed silver dollar with Louis Riel on it. Except for the proof coins mentioned above most of the coins or sets mentioned were between $21.95 and $50. The above mentioned coins and sets were the most popular for 2019, however there were many more produced depicting, travel, animals, history, nature, wired and different shapes and sizes, and much, much more. I would like to let you know of our Spring Coin & Stamp Show coming up this April 4 at Higdon Hall. Collector’s Corner is contributed by the Medicine Hat Coin & Stamp Club.
