Mark down Feb. 9 in the calendar to gear up for Medicine Hat’s seventh annual Snowflake Soiree, hosted by Canadian Mental Health Association — Alberta Southeast Region, and presented by the Community View Lions Club. This will be an amazing night filled with laughter and auction at Higdon Hall. Supporting mental health in this community has never been more fun! Come to raise funds necessary for mental health programs and awareness, or just for a fun night out! This event truly checks all the boxes for an unforgettable night. Watch the hilarious Edmonton comedian Sean Lacomber while he discusses relatable experiences and what it means to be Canadian. Participate in the jaw-dropping live auction filled with lavish items, including an adventure on Via Rail, and two WestJet tickets to anywhere. All proceeds stay in this community to support our mental health programs. Be a player in our famous Wine-Roulette — will you get lucky? Only one way to find out! The diverse silent auction filled with variety and quality will also be available throughout the evening to bid. Do not forget, each penny raised is used to provide the successful work of CMHA. The Canadian Mental Health Association is a national non-profit organization dedicated to serving anyone experiencing mental illness, to raising awareness about the importance of mental health, and to fighting the negative stereotypes and stigma surrounding mental illness. The Canadian Mental Health Association-Alberta Southeast Region (CMHA-ASER) is a local branch of CMHA that promotes mental health in this community and surrounding area. CMHA-ASER has several programs: Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH), Financial Administration, Community Helpers, Elder Abuse Collaboration, Addiction Crisis Workers, Youth programming and support, Mental Health education, and Suicide Prevention. Permanent Supportive Housing offers support to those experiencing chronic homelessness and mental health issues. The Financial Administration program offers free budgeting workshops, presentations, and one-on-one non-compliance-based budgeting sessions. Community Helpers teaches the tools necessary for an emotionally intelligent and compassionate community. Our addiction crisis workers respond to teens and adults who are experiencing crisis due to addiction. They streamline access to community resources and reduce reliance on emergency services. The youth support worker connects youth to available resources to address their mental health concerns. Mental health educators work to provide free education to anyone in the community regarding mental health topics including, but not limited to, stress management, self-care, and supporting individuals with mental illness; suicide intervention skills training and mental health first-aid are also offered.
