Christmas came early for the Medicine Hat College Campus Care program as two half-ton pickup loads of food were delivered earlier this week.
“This can be a difficult time of year for students,” MHC chaplain Kristy Reimers-Loader wrote in an email to the News. “Student loans are often spent by now and cupboards can get pretty bare in the last few weeks before Christmas.”
From Dec. 4-7 students can go to the Student Association on campus and fill a grocery bag full of food, completely free of charge. Any leftover food will go into the campus food bank for distribution to students in the future.
The donation came from the Medicine Hat Christian church community, Reimers-Loader wrote, specifically All Saints Anglican Church, St Barnabas Anglican Church, St Peter Lutheran Church, Unity Lutheran Church, Victory Lutheran Church, St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Gordon Memorial United Church, Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church and the Medicine Hat Ecumenical Campus Ministry Society.
“Special thanks go out to Leann Webb and her husband Ron, and her team of volunteers from St John’s Presbyterian Church who delivered this amazing gift,” wrote Reimers-Loader.
