Medicine Hat News The Art Gallery at the Esplanade was chosen recently for a special presentation by the local chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Lisa Reich was awarded a grant of $1,600 from the P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education. After the presentation, Reich, her mom and the P.E.O. sisters who came to support Lisa enjoyed the displays in the three galleries at the Esplanade. The portraits of confident, well-grounded women — works of photographic art by Elaine Freedman — were of particular interest, as well as the variety in the school art display, and the historic “trench art” display. Reich is a graduate of Medicine Hat High School and has also completed a Bachelor of Education. When she completes her masters degree in counselling psychology, Reich’s goal is to work for Alberta Health Services in schools with teens. The P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education, established in 1973, is a grant program providing financial assistance to women whose education has been interrupted and who find it necessary to resume studies due to changing demands in their lives. The P.E.O. Sisterhood, founded in 1869, is a philanthropic and educational organization interested in bringing to women increased opportunities for higher education. There are approximately 6,000 local chapters in the United States and Canada with nearly a quarter of a million active members. 7
