By the Way: Every man for himself

By Medicine Hat News on September 23, 2017.

When there is stiff completion or a life or death situation it’s tempting to think “Every Man for Himself.” We need to look out for No. 1 and fight for our own survival.

We can’t really operate that way. We know that we can’t. We know that the only way to survive and to do to well in this life is to work together. It is necessary to support each other and to share.

It has been great these past weeks to see our community wrestle with what it means to support each other. The transit debate has been fascinating. How do we support each other in the practical things — like transportation?

It has been marvelous to watch our community get excited about caring for each other É because that is what transit is. Transit is a way to provide for everyone.

We all know that this has been very difficult for both staff and elected officials to work through. But aren’t you glad that you live in a community where the whole community is interested in the good of all?

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:35 NIV
