Medicine Hat News The Wirzba family, which operates the Tim Hortons restaurants in Medicine Hat, is celebrating 25 years in the Gas City this weekend. “The opportunity to support various community groups and events is rewarding,” said Marlies Wirzba, owner and operator of EIWM Holdings. “We enjoy serving our community and empowering local initiatives.” EIWM Holdings started in 1992 as a family business run by Eric, Wally and Marlies Wirzba. They bought into the Tim Hortons franchise and began operating the downtown Tim Hortons in Medicine Hat with just a few staff. Today, 25 years later, the Wirzbas operate eight Tim Hortons locations with No. 9 on its way before the end of 2017 on Strachan Road. EIWM Holdings currently employs more than 250 people locally. In the past 25 years, community groups have enjoyed EIWM’s generosity. In 2016 alone, EIWM donated: 4,800 cups of coffee, 8,900 Timbits, 2,900 doughnuts, 1,668 muffins, and more. Currently, more than 200 local and international community organizations receive in-kind and cash donations from EIWM Holdings every year. In a press release, EIWM said it enjoys serving and donating to local organizations such as Timbits soccer and hockey, The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter, The Children’s Wish Foundation, The Connection Intercultural Association, Medicine Hat Skateboard Association, various high school and elementary school programs, among others. Camp Day is also an important day of giving for the Wirzbas. Many influential people in Medicine pause their schedule and get behind the Tim Hortons counter to serve coffee to Medicine Hat citizens. All proceeds of Camp Day are then used to send the economically disadvantaged kids in our community to a posh camp in Kananaskis. To mark the Wirzba family’s 25-year celebration, Tim Hortons customers may enter a draw for a chance to win one of 100 Tim Hortons coffee cards on Saturday, at any of the eight Tim Hortons locations in Medicine Hat and Redcliff. 9
