Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, Oct. 8, 2024

By Ticked Off - Tickled Pink on October 8, 2024.

Ticked Off

At the large dead trees hanging over Dunmore Road hill. They are dangerous. Any high wind cold bring branches down on road and hit cars. Why doesn’t the city remove them?

Tickled Pink

I would be if our premier stayed in her own lane and let municipalities decide where they can set up photo radar within their jurisdictions.

Ticked Off

Our premier appears to believe in chemtrail conspiracy. She should not be taken seriously. We deserve better.

Tickled Pink

Chemtrails over Alberta? Amazing what politicians will believe from uncredited sources, and we trust these politicians to run our province?

Ticked Off

One of the main reasons I have my children in independent schools is the weakness in math from those who went through the public system. Independent schools cost the taxpayer less than half the total public demands yet with better results. You want everyone in public so it costs everyone more and present schools are even more crowded?

Tickled Pink

The entertainment this ridiculous feature in the News provides is non-stop. Why on Earth would someone complain about condo owners not paying their dues here? Shouldn’t you have a condo board to deal with these things? Oh, wait, that’s what happens in the real world, not Medicine Hat.

Ticked Off

To the, ‘moved to Alberta from P.E.I. a few months ago,’ take this column with a grain of salt. Sure there are a few grumpy remarks, but for the most part I enjoy reading all the opinions. To classify people as miserable for some comments they have made is a bit harsh.

Tickled Pink

That people from P.E.I. love it here. So do we, moved in from Manitoba, lived in six provinces, including Quebec. Alberta is by far the best. Love the help seniors get here for paying for medications; we pay very little compared to Manitoba. Taxes are lower as well. But friendly people are the real attraction, plus a good climate. It was not bad under the NDP and even better under the UCP.

Ticked Off

An increase of $70 a month on OAS from ages 65-74 is not going to help any senior. Especially after you take the federal and provincial tax off.

Tickled Pink

That the frost hasn’t hit our garden yet and it’s still a beautiful explosion of colour.

Ticked Off

Division Avenue was a major north-south route in Medicine Hat. It is not a quaint little neighbourhood street, and I live on the hill. This new Division Avenue is horrible; too narrow and no bike lanes.

Ticked Off

With narrow Division Avenue and the bulbous corners. How will a moving company get a semi-trailer van onto SE Hill? Motor homes, people pulling camping trailers? These sidewalks will give pedestrians false sense of safety. Check southeast corner of Division Avenue and 12th. See all the tire marks and black rubber on the sidewalk.Because we’re a city of big vehicles, not Vancouver with little cars.

Tickled Pink

That despite an amazing European vacation where we saw and did so many wonderful things, it still feels this good to be home again.

Ticked Off

WestJet’s decision to reduce flights due to lack of “bums in the seats,” is totally their problem with unreliable service, passengers fed up with late flights, cancelled flights and no signs of improvement in the service.

Tickled Pink

If our government would do a complete audit of our health-care system and have it out there for easy access, not hide it behind some garbage. Find out where our hard earned tax dollars are going. We seem to spend billions and billions of dollars to the health-care system and nothing gets better. There needs to be change, not more money.

Ticked Off

Looks like our premier is resorting to Trump-like politics. Keep throwing crap against a wall hoping some of it will stick.

Tickled Pink

TOTP is a great feature of the MH News. Even people who claim to dislike the crybabies who write in can’t help but read the comments. Thanks to the News for providing this forum.

Ticked Off

I’m sure everyone is affected by the state of our health-care system. Varying from long waits at doctor’s office three-plus hours, booking appointments months in advance for urgent matters. Mainly due to doctor shortage provincially. Home care and long-term care way over stretched with unreasonable workloads. Hospital’s staff running on fumes, people deserve so much better. Please vent your frustrations to MLA, premier, the upper echelon deserves the tongue lashing.

Ticked Off

I doubt the people from away came here because of Alberta’s current government. Maybe they came because of previous government’s legacy. All of this province’s previous governments were better than Smith’s UCP. I just hope she is prevented from doing unrepairable damage to this province.

Tickled Pink

I would be if the crosswalk at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and First Street SE could be repainted. That is a very busy corner in downtown Medicine Hat and right now it’s not safe for pedestrians to cross safely.

Ticked Off

Hours and hours in line waiting for lab work appointment, some of us have to get to work and simply can not spend time to sit and wait. Is anybody paying this matter any serious attention? Who do we lobby for this matter to be addressed urgently?

Tickled Pink

If accident level at ‘the circles’ doesn’t happen as Medicine Hat drivers are terrible, careless and will plow into other drivers at ‘the circles’. I’m staying away for the next year while ‘know how’ improves. My insurance agent will be pleased to hear this.

Ticked Off

Speeding on city streets and highways gets a lot of media coverage, but what about parking lots? The speeders in my condo parking lot are nothing short of dangerous drivers. The limit is 15 km/h, but most drive twice that speed or more. The police have recommended speed bumps and I am lobbying our board to instal this traffic-calming device. One in five accidents occur in a parking lot. The blood will not be on my hands when someone is hurt or worse. Slow down.

Tickled Pink

Kudos to the City of Medicine Hat for their forward thinking in incorporating Safe Active Transportation into the revitalization of Division Avenue S. Hopefully we will see more of this moving forward, like maybe on Kingsway Avenue?

Ticked Off

Some people think hand-counted ballots would be better than a machine that can count hundreds of ballots per second. Please join the electronic age people. Progress doesn’t mean going backwards. Things were not better in the past.

Tickled Pink

The wider sidewalks on Division Avenue are fantastic. I can’t wait to ride my bike on them.

Ticked Off

The U.S. might deserve Trump as president but the rest of the world doesn’t. I hope Americans come to their senses and elect someone competent.

Tickled Pink

With whomever puts those compliments in here regarding his wife. I keep saying it’s me. Thanks to whomever does it!

Ticked Off

At people upset with the nurses marching at the hospital and think it’s ridiculous. You know what is ridiculous, over the last 10 years getting a 9.7 per cent increase in wage; not per year but terms of service, only 9.7 per cent. I know people will huff and say something like that’s more than I ever got, but keep in mind over the last 10 years how much politicians have given themselves in wage increases for a single person, or bonus packages, or retirement income. And these guys are out there saving lives. So if health-care workers want to be paid what they are worth, I think they should, they are doing the jobs we don’t want to, and Lord knows most of us don’t have the patience or ability to handle humanity at its lowest point. Case in point, COVID-19. We need these people, so pay them.

Ticked Off

My elderly parents line up outside the lab for bloodwork at 7 a.m., the lines down a full block. This is unacceptable, and we are going into colder months. There’s nowhere for them to sit, and taking chairs on the bus is not an option.

Ticked Off

At the person who gave their side of unions. Why don’t teachers go on strike during the summer holidays? Why do grain handlers strike during harvesting season? They do this to disrupt the system and create more havoc. Both of these unions strike when they will hurt the most vulnerable. Unions always complain management doesn’t play fair, but they should look in the mirror.

Ticked Off

We have an overbearing, power-hungry twit telling Canadian taxpayers we need a federal election before four years in October 2025. Waste/spend more of my money. Use your party donations from big corporations instead of my pot.

Ticked Off

Seeing the cost of maintenance on the city gas turbines makes me wonder why the city’s own maintenance workers were laid off a few years ago. Records of past maintenance schedules should be examined to see if this was cost efficient. Do we require more major overhauls? Is there still an agenda with some on council to sell the power plant, portraying it as too expensive, when an ill advised attempt to cut costs has caused this?

Ticked Off

That our premier caters to the conspiracy theorists. Be big enough to tell them they’re nuts and move along to the real job of governing.

Ticked Off

Why is this government constantly trying to throw away our money at stupid things. Putting up $8 million for scholarships and grants for our kids to work in rural communities? For them to apply, do their residency and then bugger off because Alberta doesn’t trust or treat doctors in the field with any respect. Is this truly solving the shortages we have here? UCP, you have done this program before and it failed, so why not come up with something better?
