Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, April 18, 2024

By Ticked Off - Tickled Pink on April 18, 2024.

Ticked Off

Being a senior citizen on a fixed income who can’t afford utilities or property tax, and then the mayor asks for accountability and they try to force her out. Meanwhile, the city manager makes over $300K per year and spends over $500K on renovations, and she’s not the only one? I back our mayor.

Ticked Off

This situation at city hall is truly not good for business. It’s hard enough, as we all know, to draw interest to our area with any substantial investment. We need well paid jobs here, and it’s only a matter of time before some of the industries leave. Then what? With the muppet show being our welcome to Medicine Hat, City of Secrets, who would want to invest and who would be crazy enough to move here?

Ticked Off

At the number of city managers who micro manage the workers who have done their jobs for years.

Tickled Pink

With the great food store on Maple Avenue. The IGA is locally owned and operated. Good prices, great selection, fantastic service!

Ticked Off

And disgusted that the city manager can do so much wrong and never suffer a consequence.

Tickled Pink

That the foothills ranchers opposed to strip mining won in court after fighting UCP stonewalling for years. Yes, UCP, very good government. Just hope your critics get tired and go away.

Tickled Pink

Not only Tickled pink but elated a judge ruled the Alberta government finally had to turn over documents related to coal mining in the Rocky Mountains. I just don’t understand why the UCP doesn’t care what Albertans want and simply does whatever they choose. I don’t know of anyone in favour of open pit coal mining in the Rockies, yet the UCP continually try to secretly allow it and expand it.

Tickled Pink

Sincere and heartfelt thanks to all those volunteers from school kids, bands/music, pet visits and more, who truly bring so much joy to our seniors facility!

Ticked Off

If any mayor should have been sanctioned it should have been the previous one and that council. Let’s start with the events centre that costs taxpayers $3.5 million a year to subsidize. Our previous mayor has an ego yet made so many costly mistakes to the city.

Ticked Off

With the rebuttal of “getting rid of gatekeepers in building homes, etc.” This statement includes all Canadians who object to a building in our area that we don’t find attractive. This is an insult to all taxpayers.

Ticked Off

That no academic institutions in Alberta are conducting research on whether or not the Earth is flat. (Editor’s note: Feels more or less wrapped up as a no, yeah?)

Ticked Off

At the editor of this paper. He did not publish my rebuttal towards his accusation of me texting while driving, which I was not doing. I waited till I arrived home to write into this column regarding the idiot biker dude tailgating my vehicle. He was close I could see his nose hairs in my rearview mirror. So, to you editor, ya big chicken and clearly afraid to show that you are wrong with your comments a lot! (Editor’s note: You also shouldn’t stare through your rearview mirror at people’s nose hairs. Eyes on the road and all that. PS – you do realize no one knows who you are, yeah? No need to lose sleep over clearing your name. We get more submissions than can be printed. It’s not personal.)

Ticked Off

The Kirby Centre, aka Veiner Centre, is now being controlled by head office in Calgary. How do they know what is best for us here in the Hat? Seniors don’t seem to get the benefit of the doubt. I’ll be opting out of my membership next season.

Ticked Off

At the editor of this column. He/she just loves to interject their opinion with the people who are writing in to air their grievances. (Editor’s note: If I have to read 400 grievances a week, it’s just more fun if some of them are directed at me.)

Tickled Pink

Proud of the southern Alberta ranchers pressuring the government to release documents concerning coal mining in the Rockies. No reason to pollute our precious lakes and rivers.

Ticked Off

I just find it hard to believe our intelligent city councillors would think they could so severely sanction our mayor and then not give an adequate explanation.

Tickled Pink

By the Meals on Wheels program, a big thank-you to all of those who make it possible. Also a big thank-you to both the volunteers for Meals on Wheels as well as for all of the other services they contribute to without which these services wouldn’t be possible.

Tickled Pink

I won two tickets to the Louisiana Hayride Show. It was fantastic! The music was incredible, the songs memorable and the sound acceptable. I will definitely attend this performance again. Thanks for the tickets, Medicine Hat News.

Ticked Off

For the record, you don’t have to believe the mass media to know the climate emergency is very real. Go and read all the studies that climate scientists are publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals, is that mass media? I’m curious to hear where climate change deniers get all their “facts” that are somehow more reputable than all the people actually studying the topic. Nearly 200 worldwide scientific organizations hold the position that climate change is real and caused by human action, but sure, it’s all a lie because you’re paranoid the government wants to turn you into a slave. Sounds very reasonable.

Ticked Off

So sad to see that the person they caught for the mail box thefts is out on bail.

Ticked Off

Not sure how much your paper pays for the horoscope section, but I feel you’re being taken advantage of. I don’t read them often, maybe twice a year, but the one Wednesday for me told me, “You may come into money, or maybe not. Anything to do with wealth is unpredictable today!” That sounds like something my mom would have told me growing up when she was giving me my allowance if I didn’t do my chores.

Ticked Off

Chrystia Freeland confirms again she is completely unqualified to manage Canada’s finances. Liberal leadership was taken by her personal ambition rather than her capabilities. It is no surprise that this nation’s finances are in a terrible mess.

Ticked Off

Lost all respect and confidence in council. How long do we have to wait for an election. (Editor’s note: October 2025.)

Ticked Off

Absolutely disgusted with the UCP that they would go behind the public’s back for months to work with the coal industry to rescind decades-old policy protecting the Rocky Mountains from the development of coal mines. Then they turn around and say renewables and wind turbines are harming Alberta’s pristine viewscapes? The hypocrisy is sickening.

Ticked Off

At MLA Justin Wright’s piece in Wednesday’s paper, patting the UCP on the back for a measly investment into grants for high-schoolers. Meanwhile, the UCP continue to massively underfund K-12 education in the province overall, and under the UCP Alberta has sunk from being one of the top funders of students to the lowest in the country. “The future is bright and filled with possibility for Alberta’s youth.” Yeah, filled with possibilities of teacher shortages and overfilled classrooms.

Ticked Off

While I was digging through the markdown shelf at the grocery store last night, our out-of-touch premier, Danielle Smith, was eating a $1,000-a-plate dinner in Edmonton.
