Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, Feb. 8, 2024

Ticked Off

Pre-scripted questions, now a no recording ‘miscommunication’ at town hall? Add another oops to this premier’s less than stellar leadership blunders and misguided attentions. Love to see her do her job; for Albertans, doctors, health care, education and stop frivolously wasting her time and our money on an Alberta Pension Plan, hanging out with Tucker Carlson and pandering to Oil companies.

Tickled Pink

That our prime minister shows his true colours. When Alberta wants to pass controversial legislation, he can’t make it to the microphone fast enough, but when Quebec does it, he is completely silent. What a coward. Oh, I forgot, he only risks losing seats in Quebec, not Alberta.

Ticked Off

That the City Of Medicine Hat keeps hiring outside consultants. The city’s economic development department (previously IMH) just hired four full-time new positions and also hired a consultant to help re-create Medicine Hat Waterfront District incentives. Is this IMH 2.0? Sure feels like it since the newly hired consultant worked in the IMH department. Was this same consultant also part of the ORKA fiasco in 2021?

Ticked Off

Frustrating that some people are not able to defer to experts on subjects they have little knowledge on. Vaccines? Listen to the immunologists. Climate change? Listen to the climate scientists. Children’s health? Listen to the pediatricians. Instead, many people in this city seem to think their own personal opinions trump all else. But still, I bet if they ever needed life-saving brain surgery there’s only one person they want doing it – a trained and accredited brain surgeon. Or maybe they’d let our premier operate on them, since they seem to think she holds all the answers.

Ticked Off

That the previous food bank may be sold for a loss of some $200,000 to save on insurance and upkeep. Sell the pretty sea cans at Towne Square, no one is renting or using them either! Plenty of upkeep there, as well with vandalism.

Ticked Off

That our regional MLAs can’t think and speak for themselves. Take Back Alberta dictates what Smith will say, and she in turn dictates what Wright will say. It was painfully true when I read in a work of fiction by Christopher Moore this weekend, “… righteous we may be, my friend, but without courage to risk ourselves for our brother, we are but politicians.”

Ticked Off

Hatters must like paying high taxes. All the politicians ever do is threaten to raise taxes if they take off a fee. Has anyone ever heard of cutting taxes?

Ticked Off

Glaciologists at UBC predict the glaciers that feed the South Saskatchewan River will be gone in a few decades. The river will become a creek. Ground water will be greatly diminished. Irrigation will become impossible. Agriculture will vanish. Medicine Hat will be the new Manyberries. Any effort to forestall the inevitable is useless. Nero fiddles while Rome burns.

Ticked Off

That government has picked on national grocery chains for causing hardships for consumers. Maybe people have trouble buying groceries because they have to pay 18-21% on their credit card purchases. Most have troublemaking minimum payments. Why doesn’t government investigate the banking sector and have them claw back credit card interest rates for a year? I guess they have to make their billion dollar a year to pay bonuses.

Tickled Pink

Thank goodness our premier opened a new office in Ottawa. This will take the pressure off our provincial MPs in that city, who are overworked by the numerous calls they get about business in Alberta. We have to spend that excess money from health cutbacks somewhere!

Ticked Off

Surely I cannot be the only Canadian who is frustrated by both government and media priorities? Why does our economic growth and sustainability seem to play second fiddle to gender issues? I’m not sure how productive it is to devote such disproportionate time, energy and coverage to an issue that clearly impacts the minority.

Tickled Pink

That we have a state of the art facility that is well capable of hosting a Memorial Cup. As well, we are sitting on for volunteers, and people will totally step up in that aspect. No, it’s just a matter of putting the bid forth and watch things fall into place. It will be our legacy.

Ticked Off

At the snoopy neighbour, always wondering what other people are doing, and not even worried about himself. What a sad life you have to live like that.
