Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, Jan. 23, 2024

By Ticked Off - Tickled Pink on January 23, 2024.

Tickled Pink

At the “lawyers have their hands in the own pockets” joke from the last column. Keep it coming!

Ticked Off

So we should be happy because we wouldn’t be getting a carbon tax rebate without having a carbon tax? Wow, you probably think the government runs everything to the max efficiency, too.

Tickled Pink

When I was young I admired intelligent people. Now that I am much older, I now admire kind people.

Ticked Off

That residents of this city are still complaining about the Event Centre aka Co-op Place. It’s built, it’s staying, deal with it.

Ticked Off

That people think the local WHL hockey team organization doesn’t pay out expenses and that they are lining their jeans with buckets of money. It costs many dollars to run this team, and so does applying for, and the execution of running a huge tournament such as the Memorial Cup. Not to mention this city is unequipped to house thousands of people that would need to come here to attend and help organize such a huge event.

Ticked Off

That people think the old Arena would be a viable location for housing homeless people. It’s not even run by the city anymore.

Ticked Off

That some people received over $300 for carbon tax. I only got $200. (Editor’s note: A single person received $212 for this instalment. Couples get more, as do homes with dependents. But outside that every Albertan is on the same scale, regardless of income. Keep in mind you get that four times a year and it increases as the tax does.)

Tickled Pink

That our fine city owns its own utilities and that we actually can sell to the grid and make a profit. What a bunch of smart people we had running in the past. Kudos to our Mayor Grimm for that.

Ticked Off

That the lady who is on trial for killing her husband, and dismembering some of his parts, is only charged with second-degree murder. I think it’s a capitol offence and (if guilty) she should get life with no parole. (Editor’s note: We don’t have those in Canada. As for first-degree murder, it’s all based on what they feel can be proved, even when it might seem obvious. A few years ago a woman who stabbed her husband 17 times had her charges dropped down to manslaughter because the Crown wasn’t sure it could prove ‘intent to kill.’)

Ticked Off

To the person who wrote contemptuously about Rachel Notley. Calling her a grifter? I think you have your premiers mixed up. Just another example of the utterly brainwashed and prejudiced. Rachel was the best thing to happen to this banana republic petro-state. She actually cared about regular Albertans (even the brainwashed who hated her) rather than just the obscenely rich oil CEOs and private health CEOs who want to keep getting rich off their generations of lies that have corrupted and divided our society.

Tickled Pink

With Kym Porter’s reply to MLA Wright’s harmful propaganda piece in Wednesday’s paper. Justifying and sounding proud of his government’s harmful addictions policy is incredibly frustrating and enraging. People are dying at an alarming rate, and our government is congratulating themselves for, what, exactly? Implementing any policy they can find that doesn’t meet best practices or standards?

Tickled Pink

If the average lefty would remember that Rachel Notley took Alberta’s debt from $11 billion to $86 billion. Our Albertan grandchildren will be paying off the Notley debt for the rest of their lives. (Editor’s note: If it helps ease your worries for the grandkids any, Alberta still has the lowest debt-to GDP ratio in the country, so it could be worse.)

Ticked Off

It is ridiculous to call Rachel Notley a grifter. Why? Danielle Smith hired her campaign staff to work in her premier’s office, increasing costs by approximately $3 million. She is entitled to the grifter designation.

Ticked Off

Why is the Alberta government letting oil companies get away with not cleaning up the derelict oil wells? Isn’t it the law that they do so? Now the government will offer incentives for them to clean them up. Smells like something is not right. The conservative governments have not handled this problem well at all.

Tickled Pink

The UCP socialist government gave away $2.4 billion in the Affordability Act. I don’t think the NDP would have done that. Why vote in a socialist government when we already have one? Good job Danielle, keep the handouts coming. (Editor’s note: Socialism is an economic construct where workers own the means of production.)

Ticked Off

Why is Alberta still in debt? We are continually bailed out by oil revenues. We can’t blame our problems on Trudeau or the NDP. It is all because our 40-plus years of conservative governments have not done a very good job. No other province has had the same advantages as we have. We should be way ahead but we are not.

Tickled Pink

Alberta stepped up and power usage dropped by 200 megawatts within two minutes. The good news is Alberta has 1,800 megawatts of new, reliable natural gas power generation coming online in the next few months, so this emergency likely won’t happen again.

Tickled Pink

About the Medicine Hat News and will continue to support them. At least we get actual news and opinions that make sense. Not like the news we get from our local TV channel. If you call that news.

Ticked Off

It snowed again . It is winter. Do you see how much power the large solar panel projects are producing now? Bugger all is the answer. (Editor’s note: If only there were a way to store excess power somehow…)

Tickled Pink

As suspected, the arsonists are starting to be charged with all the fires last supper spontaneously caused by climate change. (Editor’s note: Are you talking about Brain Paré, the far-right conspiracy theorist from Quebec who claimed the government was setting fires to push the climate-change ‘hoax’ and has now pled guilty to starting 14 fires himself? That arsonist?)

Tickled Pink

I am thrilled we have a local tea place on third street downtown. I will definitely going back there again!

Tickled Pink

All the new locally owned places from footwear to plants to books to clothing. Local is where I want to spend my money, support community stores and employees. And money earned is spent back into the community. Unlike those big-box stores with shareholders who greedily free earn it.

Ticked Off

People are constantly complaining of the location of Co-op Place and Big Marble Go Centre. The location isn’t the problem, transportation is the problem. For big events, hockey games, the city should be ensuring city transit can do runs to and from Co-op Place. Transit system to Big Marble is horrible and long, unsure why transit can’t be expanded for both northeast and northwest bus routes to make it more convenient.

Ticked Off

Transit system was a lot better in the ’70s. I remember my kids being able to take the bus two different ways, one went down Riverside to 12th Street NW to NE, another went past McCoy and toward NW down to Riverside. My kids took the bus all the time, as public transit was convenient. Now I look at it and realize why people aren’t wanting to use it.

Ticked Off

If people were being told at the Tigers games to quit cheering so loud, we have a problem. We have always been know for the loudest barn in the Dub. Management better have a discussion with security. Who wants to go to a Tiger game and have a dull crowd? Nobody.

Tickled Pink

That they are not allowing artificial noise makers at the Tigers games. Sirens and horns have ruined my experience at numerous sporting events. Cheering is one thing, having a horn blare in your ear from someone behind you is just irritating. It should be just natural, voice-only cheering.

Ticked Off

Recently during our terribly frigid cold weather, I noticed many drivers who just wouldn’t stay home for any reason. They just drive around for no reason, and if their vehicle breaks down they are just dumbfounded as to why.

Ticked Off

How can Elections Alberta maintain an aura of neutrality when the employees are members of a union that is an official election third-party advertiser?

Tickled Pink

The person who moved here and determined there is a lot of frustrated people according to this forum is correct. What is the reason? Our conservative government that leaves us constantly stressed.

Ticked Off

Alberta brings in all kinds of people and doesn’t do much to encourage people to have children, or subsidize daycares. Daycares should be free to families in this province. We can afford it and it should be a priority to grow our population within the province.

Ticked Off

To watch the Grand Slam of Curling at Red Deer’s beautiful curling rink. So sad that Medicine Hat has never cared about curling, thus an old, run-down building. More interested in modern pickleball courts and unused Towne Square. (Editor’s note: Didn’t the city just buy the building and commit money to help upgrade it for use?)

Ticked Off

I cannot even watch an Ottawa CFL game on TV because someone is continually beeping his horn.

Tickled Pink

Co-op Place will always be a source of controversy, mainly due to its location. That doesn’t bother me. I don’t attend events there because I can’t be bothered paying money to be surrounded by Medicine Hat people.

Ticked Off

At the sidewalks around the mall. They are packed with snow that will turn to ice when it thaws. Using the tractor with scraper is not enough. There needs to be someone scraping the packed snow off.
