Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, Jan. 9, 2024

Tickled Pink

With the way the Tigers are playing this season. That being said, I truly wish we’d put a bid in for the Memorial Cup. What a boost it would be for the city and the economy here.

Ticked Off

Apparently all my fitness classes were cancelled until Jan. 8, but I guess that didn’t apply to rise and spin. It does seem some favouritism occurred. It is definitely encouraging me to not renew my yearly pass.

Ticked Off

Checking out other provinces and countries for dental work, sorry but I’m not remortgaging my house for the outrageous fees in Alberta.

Tickled Pink

A big thank-you to everyone who helps our hospitals have rooms and staff to get us feeling well again. Thanks for getting vaccinated.

Ticked Off

Municipal leadership with the permission of mayor and council continue to be tone deaf to high fees on utilities. Fees are just another form of taxes so let’s call them what they are, and this city council loves taxes. Don’t you think we deserve to pay less taxes? How have those tax increases enhanced your experience in this city? The same pot holes and power outages exist. Two more years of this insanity.

Tickled Pink

At the overwhelming support Hatters showed in recent sold-out shows ‘Your Theatre Needs You’.

Ticked Off

Viruses are running rampant in the city because people refuse to get vaccinations to prevent them. They listen to some wing nut on the internet that thinks the Earth is flat and is spreading lies and all kinds of conspiracy theories, rather than listening to scientists and doctors who know what they are talking about. But they’re sure willing to run to emergency and believe the doctors once they are sick and spreading the virus to others.

Tickled Pink

With what the Medicine Hat Skateboard Association is doing down in Mexico. Helping the less fortunate and seeing first hand how some are so happy with nothing. I was 14 when I went on the first Mexico trip and 16 when we went to Africa. It changed my mindset and allowed me to be grateful for the little things we have in life. I’m thrilled we now have Instagram and Facebook for the MHSA to show what they are doing down there. Please go check out their socials and see the good these skateboarders are doing. Remember to always love life.

Tickled Pink

That the News still prints the Duplicate Bridge monthly results. I think the News should also print the pickleball monthly results. I wonder if some of the names will be the same? (Editor’s note: If they get sent in, we will definitely run them as well.)

Tickled Pink

A lot of talk regarding how warm December was. A year prior, December had 15 days below -20C and five in the -30s. In comparison, December 1958 had 19 days above 0C. Enjoy the El Niño years.

Tickled Pink

Glad to see Medicine Hat News will be carrying the PWHL standings. It would be nice to have a Western league in the future.

Ticked Off

The man who saved the woman and dog didn’t get enough recognition. Yes, the professionals are trained for this, but should he wait 10 minutes until they arrive and risk losing them? He may not have even had a phone to call for help. I would have done the same as him. Imagine living with the guilt of not helping if they had drowned while he stood there. A hero in my view.

Ticked Off

People are plugging up the emergency department at the hospital because they won’t get vaccinated. Please stop risking the lives of others because you are inconsiderate and spreading viruses.

Tickled Pink

I loved the message about the great wife. My wife asked if I sent that one in. I confessed I did not but I bet a lot of males in the city claimed it. Good submission.

Tickled Pink

So thankful to the two companies we called for Holiday furnace service, the first, although not a rep for Trane, spent a half hour troubleshooting with me on the phone to confirm the problem and then directed me to another company, which does service Trane, and was able to grab a part and get us warm again! Thank you both. Many happy returns for the New Year.

Ticked Off

Our MP Motz backs CPC Leader Poilievre who in speeches repeats that electricians capture lightning, put the lightning in copper wires to light up Canadians’ homes and businesses. Electricians are great, but I’ve seen what lightning does to our electrical system and it sure isn’t what Poilievre says.

Tickled Pink

That the editor of this column corrected my mistake of using the word “ingested” instead of meaning “congested.” For the life of me this senior brain could not think of the right word. Your replies are always kind and funny. You do a great job! (Editor’s note: Happens to us as well, but then we print 10,000 copies of our mistakes for everyone to see. Good times.)

Tickled Pink

Luke Fandrich created a wonderful production of our unique Monarch Theatre. Well researched, interesting, tributes and enlightening insights of cinemas in Medicine Hat. Was only to do three shows, each sold out, so three extra shows plus a matinée, also sold out, were needed to fill Hatters’ love for this old gem. Credit to so many for saving this iconic theatre. Rotary Club always does amazing work so the Monarch is in great hands.

Tickled Pink

These Memorial Cup articles are great. Tickled Pink we have the opportunity but it is the Masers who have the opportunity. The support in the community is here. Please ask/push the owners for a willingness to make a bid. They won’t. They won’t even make a statement. So, in the meantime don’t make us citizens and hockey fans all feel like losers for not going for it.

Ticked Off

That I worked in health care and pay taxes but I am not allowed to voice my concerns or opinion openly in fear of facing punitive repercussions from the firm.

Tickled Pink

I just went to Luke Fandrich’s documentary about the Monarch Theatre called “Your Cinema Needs You.” It was an enjoyable an interesting history lesson on movie theatres in Medicine Hat and pointed out how some things are worth saving. Kudos to the people who are making that happen.

Ticked Off

At those ‘people’ who think they can do nothing to help our struggling hospital system. Get vaccinated and look after your health.

Ticked Off

I remember attending the fatal train wreck as a first responder 40 years ago, and it was nasty. I suspect City Hall and fire department forgot as they decided to build a new fire station at the site, probably thinking it was once in a century incident. If there is another derailment with dangerous goods, that particular fire hall and staff will be pretty well useless.

Ticked Off

Why are millions of cubic metres of water being used to make snow for ski hills in the province, when they are forecasting a major shortage of water? Which is more important, a few months of skiing for the few who can afford it right now, or conserving our water for all the population? Makes absolutely no sense. We will face a summer of water restrictions, but our precious water can be used to make snow.

Ticked Off

It’s 3 a.m. on a Sunday morning and some idiot in South Ridge is shooting off fireworks.
