Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, Dec. 19, 2023

By Ticked Off - Tickled Pink on December 19, 2023.

Tickled Pink

To see the recall petition failed. Mayor Clark did not step into a job that was running smoothly.

Ticked Off

Dear Alberta, please do not mess with our pensions. There is not a good reason to administer the pensions on a province-by-province basis. What is your real motive to try and do so? Is it in our best interests? I doubt it.

Ticked Off

People need to stop throwing cigarette butts out of their windows. It’s disgusting and a fire hazard, even in the winter. I hope you get fined.

Tickled Pink

I look forward to reading Bruce Penton’s column every week, so glad it’s back. And I’m not even a grumpy old guy!

Ticked Off

That we are stuck with Arctic Circle in the comics section of the Medicine Hat News. Why can’t we have something that we understand. Pickles is an amusing example of a daily comic. Arctic Circle is dumb, full stop.

Ticked Off

I get newspaper at 7 a.m. poll is done? No way to vote and only 169 voted. What is this? I vote YES for Canada’s decision to vote at UN for Gaza ceasefire. (Editor’s note: Hmm, our apologies for it not working for you. Not too sure what happened, but there were 397 votes on that poll in the end. It’s a little below average but not crazy. The poll did stay up for the usual 24 hours. Either way, consider this your official vote. Thank you for participating!)

Ticked Off

So now that the federal government said they’ve lost millions of dollars to CCP (China) for investments, do you still think your CPP is safe? (Editor’s note: Thankfully, the federal government has no say on how the CPP fund is invested.)

Ticked Off

Bah humbug to the Grinch who was recently screaming at workers in a local store, accusing them of wasting your time. I hope they ban you. I hope all stores ban you. Cursing and swearing in front of young children says a lot about who you are, and I feel sorry for those parents who could not cover the ears of their kids from your angry outburst. Go back to your cave and hide away so the rest of us can enjoy the season.

Ticked Off

OMG, everywhere I go and almost everybody I know is sick and coughing their poor heads off. This sucks! When are the sicknesses gonna end?

Ticked Off

That the UCP blames Justin T. for everything. I do not support Liberal, but I sure am thankful for the way they handled the COVID situation on a moment’s notice by getting money into people’s hands quickly.

Ticked Off

That people think it’s good news that plastic bags can be used again. That’s a giant step backwards in an effort to keep one-use plastic out of landfills, lakes, rivers, etc.

Ticked Off

You can blame the UCP government for the lack of addiction services in this province. Danielle Smith spends more time and energy on the CPP and oil & gas than on health care and education. Too bad she didn’t read the submissions in this paper. Just maybe she’d get how much people actually despise her.

Ticked Off

That Premier Smith conveniently forgot she promised a tax cut from 10% to 8% for all Albertans making $60,000 a year or less. Not even mentioned during the last sitting of the legislature.

Ticked Off

That this city council thinks the answer to everything is just tax and spend. As far as I’m concerned we need to change them all next election. We need to do that as many times as needed until they get the message.

Ticked Off

I too am an atheist but as I see what goes on at one of those charities every day, it certainly erases any thoughts of a donation quickly.

Ticked Off

What other industry is afforded blinders that our Alberta oil and gas companies are from fulfilling their responsibilities? They’ve raked in mega profits yet won’t follow through with their own cleanup. Simple rule of, if you made the mess, you clean it up, and, dear Premier, not a dime of Alberta treasury to assist them either.

Ticked Off

The UCP believe choice is important when it comes to education and health care, so why not pensions? They should start a provincial pension plan from scratch, like Quebec did, and then give Albertans the choice to join the APP or the CPP.

Ticked Off

What a joke. Latest update for seniors dental is 87 years-plus. NDP needs to hold Liberals accountable. Are you kidding? It was the NDP who pushed for this. Your can’t trust either party. Maybe better yet, you can’t trust any of them.

Ticked Off

Danielle Smith spends a lot of time fighting any carbon reduction proposals, that even the oil companies are not apposed to. She should quit the status-quo position and start trying to figure out how to help the industry get to carbon neutral.

Tickled Pink

I am pleased to see the lack of recall support for Mayor and council shows clearer minds have prevailed. Council stated earlier this year, rate reviews for gas and electrical services are planned in 2024 and this recall event will see it happen. Our council is not perfect, but they are working in the right direction. Now let the specialists at city hall do what is necessary.

Ticked Off

That the UCP and Smith want control of an APP so they have access to it for pet projects and to borrow from it. The CPP is hands off from politicians, has great growth and is considered to be one of the best pension plans in the world; and that’s a fact.
