Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, Dec. 14, 2023

Ticked Off

Our Premier Smith continues to “bull ahead” with mandate for a referendum in legislature before Alberta can quit CPP. Now we wait her shenanigans to manipulate the referendum results to say Alberta wants an Alberta Pension plan. We need a 60/40 result to leave CPP in favour of APP to be credible.

Tickled Pink

I am an atheist, but each Christmas I donate to local Christian-based charities such as the Salvation Army and the Mustard Seed.

Ticked Off

Alberta is now the most expensive province to live in Canada. Who is responsible? Let’s see if we can blame it on Trudeau, or maybe we should ask our UCP representative. What is his name? The NDP are probably the reason, except they have not been around for a while.

Ticked Off

At people who walk on or around the little bit of snow that fell on the ground. Maybe you should move out or hire someone to do it.

Ticked Off

Let me see if I understand this; 70,000 delegates fly to Dubai to discuss climate change, including our premier and her gang? I’m sure she spent our money wisely bringing her 100 delegates to tell the world how great we are. She doesn’t believe in the science discussed, but she’s travelling the world on our dime to tell everyone we have oil here too. At least Kenney didn’t go.

Ticked Off

Everyone wants to play hockey games, but there are no referees. Just go to a game and listen to what these kid refs go through. If you think you know the game better, please take his place, because he is quitting, and being yelled at isn’t as much fun as you think.

Tickled Pink

At the failure of an ad-hominem attack on the mayor thinly disguised as a petition. The mayor and council have made important strides toward better transparency and accountability, although there is more to do. The lack of support for the recall, even if all the signatures were valid (which I doubt), speaks way louder than the complainers can ever do.

Ticked Off

At impatient drivers who takes chances on the eastbound Trans-Canada going up hill and turning off the entrance to the Dutch Nursery, cutting across fast-moving traffic going downhill westbound. Be patient before a high-speed T-bone accident occurs. Nearly happened to me and my wife, twice now.

Ticked Off

We need more capitalists, they are spending their money to make their businesses better for everyone. Ever note the government is spending money that isn’t theirs so no skin in the game? So they don’t care.

Ticked Off

What a joke. Latest update for seniors dental is 87 years-plus. NDP needs to hold Liberals accountable!

Ticked Off

Alberta fuel tax will be partially restored. Gas in Ontario is currently 126.8 to 132.6, but Medicine Hat it is 131.9. So how are getting a deal with no current fuel tax? Gotta question if the gas companies are ripping us off.

Tickled Pink

That about 8,000 people took the time to express their displeasure with our city council and mayor. I will only be voting for candidates who vow to reduce taxes. The days of tax and spend need to end at city hall.

Ticked Off

That so many comments in here are against oil. PS – oil pays for the economy in Alberta and a lot of Canada. Maybe AHS should be more efficient. They get a lot of funding.

Ticked Off

Are you kidding me? Seniors over the age of 87 get free dental care from the federal government. Who in blazes wants to go to the dentist at that age? Stupidest idea they have ever had.

Tickled Pink

Apparently, there is a way to save on taxes. The Alberta UCP government had shorted Edmonton $60 million in property taxes since 2019. Don’t pay your provincial taxes and save money! This may be satire.

Tickled Pink

That the recall petition was a total failure. Only a few hundred signatures more than all the votes against the mayor in the last election, and that’s assuming all the signatures were valid in the first place. Our council is not perfect, far from it, but they are working in the right direction and I have confidence (as do most of the population) that they are doing a good job. Just because you are loud doesn’t mean you are in the majority.

Ticked Off

Why does this paper continue to run scared from saying “Christmas?” It’s on everyone’s calendar. Try to find someone who is offended by it. (Editor’s note: This paper is chock full of both the event of Christmas and the word itself for all of December each and every year. We literally have our own Christmas charity and we proudly promote it all year long. And, you’re right, no one is ever offended. Occasionally however, someone does seem to be offended that we also acknowledge other people’s existence with terms like Holiday Season. Anyway, Merry Christmas!

Tickled Pink

Why does our fantastic premier defend the oil and gas industry? Maybe because it’s the biggest employer of Albertans and provides the tax dollars (through industry and personal taxes) that keeps the lights on in this province, literally. (Editor’s note: Oil and gas has been and will continue to be important in Alberta. But for the record, the industry is the sixth largest private-sector employer in Alberta. Forestry, fishing, mining, quarrying, oil and gas employed 138,300 people in 2022, or about 7.1% of the workforce.)
