Just Pondering: Women of consequence

By Allyson McCaw on September 22, 2022.

This month has been unprecedented in that we are mourning the loss of one of the greatest women of my lifetime. Much has already been said and will continue about Royal Majesty the Queen. There is not much I can add except to wonder how someone was able to balance her private life against all the scrutiny and media attention that was focused on her for basically all her glorious 96 years.

How did she manage? How did she somehow always seem poised and able to put on an excellent front to the pubic? I am sure there were many times when she would have loved to set it all aside and just be a mom and wife. However, she never shirked her duties and carried herself with extreme dignity and wisdom.

There is no doubt she was one of a kind. The fact the lines to stand and wait to show their respects is 14 hours long really is the most telling of all. I personally will miss seeing her and always remarking on her lovely outfits and how really “good she looks.”

Rest in peace your Majesty. You deserve it.

Another milestone this month is the great Serena Williams’ retirement announcement and final set at the US Open tennis tournament. She is a woman I also admire greatly and wonder how she managed to become one of the greatest sportspersons against incredible odds. She too carries herself with great poise and grace.

Both these women have shown that age is just a number and with enough determination and internal fortitude you can influence generations.

So, if you have a day when you feel too old or not “good enough,” just remember these two women. Nothing is impossible.

Stay well,

Allyson
