There’s something very special happening around our friendly region. Due to our arid climate, Medicine Hat is the only city in Alberta where prickly pear cactus and pin cushion cactus grow in great abundance. The drought of the past few years has increased their spread many times over. To enjoy the splendid sight of the ... Read More »

Thank you to Jason Kenney and the UCP for their stellar example of the enhanced Legislature decorum they recently insisted upon. Their two-bit stunt of wearing earplugs in the Legislature while opposition members were speaking in debate was, for me, disappointing but not surprising. It has not taken long for the old, familiar Progressive Conservative ... Read More »

Another parliamentarian, Michael Cooper, has been criticized for expressing thoughts unacceptable to certain others. He had tried to point out that hatred is not a function of conservatism. His apology was not sufficient appeasement. Bigots immediately clamoured for his dismissal from the Conservative Party of Canada caucus. This was not an isolated incident. Sen. Lynn ... Read More »

Re: “I swore I’d never write about this topic again,” June 3 Dr. Gifford Jones, he defended the right of a woman to control her own body including her right to abortion. He completely ignored the rights of the newly conceived human life which surely has the basic human right to life ordained by God. ... Read More »

Re: “UCP bill to alter union wage deals,” June 13 The headline really hit home. It’s difficult to read about the legislation the UCP government intends to pass regarding worker rights and collective bargaining rights. I’d argue that the majority of Albertans elected the UCP to get people back to work in the oilsands, not ... Read More »

Medicine Hat is rapidly becoming a third world country like those in Central America, where thieves and thugs ruin our streets. The brain-dead drug users, dealers and criminal thieves have more rights than we as taxpayers, who worked hard in order to have a comfortable retirement. Now we are being forced because of these problems ... Read More »

Here we go again like listening to Lawrence Welk on a 78rpm record. Premier Jason Kenney and the Tories have cancelled the proposed medical superlab in Edmonton. Do they have a plan for its replacement? Nada. The previous Tory government plan was to assign lab services to a private Australian company. If we remember a ... Read More »

II see our politicians are at it again, acting like little children not getting their own way. Mr. Kenney showed his true colours early by leading his primary class in a protest against what? Something he doesn’t want to hear? And certainly he doesn’t want his sycophants to hear it either. He did his best ... Read More »

Re: “Just two cannabis-impaired charges laid thus far, June 22 The article states that in Medicine Hat, during the eight months since cannabis legalization, two people have been subject to criminal charges for cannabis-impaired driving. For purposes of comparison, I would be grateful to the police if they would publicize the number of people against ... Read More »

Re: “UCP literally plugs ears to bill debate,” June 21 Less than 12 hours after Premier Jason Kenney’s earplug stunt, veteran Canadian broadcaster Anna-Maria Tremonti presented her last radio program as host of “The Current.” AMT (as she is known) identified the most important thing she had learned from conducting more than 13 000 interviews. ... In recent travels I came across a parked vehicle on College Avenue along the southbound stretch between the college and the Cultural Centre. Several other cars had stopped in the adjacent southbound lane, and a single male figure could be seen walking in front of both vehicles, waving his arms about. Though he didn’t appear ...
