Re: “Medicine Hat has a weed problem,” June 8 I agree wholeheartedly with Ken Pirie’s letter to the editor. I have been fighting with the Parks Department to clean up the weeds and overgrown trees and shrubs around the Northlands storm pond for years. It is a weed-infested disgrace with overgrown underbrush and trees. This ... Read More »

I recently spent some days at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. I don’t think I have ever seen a more dedicated, qualified and compassionate group of professionals. There are many hospitals in Alberta that could benefit with services comparable to those delivered in the Medicine Hat facility. Special thanks to the staff on 5 East, ... Read More »

Re: “Local man claims he and other ‘Christians’ are being stifled by the library’s social media,” June 1 Mr. S. Johnston has had his two minutes of fame, though I am saddened it was at the expense of some people at the fine public institution whose only crime is social inclusion and acceptance. It’s a ... Wow, we’ve been massively lied to and now get to pay for it in a big way! A National Observer article titled “What’s Behind Kinder Morgan’s May 31 Ultimatum? Follow the Money” by Robyn Allan shows Kinder Morgan never had the money to build the pipeline. So now they’re trying to get out of their ... Read More »

I’ve become concerned lately about the WHL and NHL using the terms upper and lower body injuries regarding players. Teams use these terms to hide injuries from opponents but end up hiding them from the press and especially the fans paying for tickets. The fans have a right to know what is going on with ... Much ado has been made about a racist rant by a female customer at a Denny’s restaurant in Lethbridge — probably fueled by alcohol, which doesn’t aid rationality. Her tirade certainly was outrageous, but was it unprovoked? People don’t generally burst into such a rage without a reason. When will we hear her side of ... Read More »

Re: “Parks and Recreation: June is Recreation and Parks Month, June 4 The writer of the column was Mr. Randy Taves, manager, Parks and Recreation, City of Medicine Hat. This city does in fact have an abundance of parks and facilities, but they are a far cry from the “beautiful outdoors” mentioned in the column. ... Read More »

A few years ago, I made a decision that would change my life forever. I was playing by the railway tracks with my friends when I decided to hop onto a moving train. I fell off and my left leg went under the wheels. Doctors tried to save my leg but they couldn’t. As a ... Read More »

During the April 19-20 London Commonwealth Conference, attended by 53 nations, wide-ranging solutions were passed in regards to the banning of plastics of all sorts. One of them the banning of drinking straws. The Right Honourable Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, know as well under the name of Mr. Dress-Up, sidestepped the adoption of the solution. ... Read More »

Re: “Nothing has changed; Trans Mountain project will continue to drag on,” May 26 The headline to Gillian Slade’s editorial says it all and proves she is wrong. The key word is “continue.” The Trans Mountain project was about to end and now the federal government has ensured that it will continue. Gillian wrote: “Prime ... Read More »

Medicine Hat Coun. Kris Samraj has proposed the idea of term limits for municipal councillors and mayors. I disagree. One of our democratic rights is to run for public office. Mr. Samraj’s proposal, if implemented, would curtail that right. To impose a “best before date” is to merely speculate that a elected official is no ... Read More »
