Letter: Hatters suffer while council bickers like feuding parents

Dear editor,

One of the best analogies describing the current state of city council is that it’s like a divorce. But in this case, instead of a child receiving the brunt of the fallout coming from litigious, bickering parents who claim they are looking out for the best interests of their son or daughter, it’s Hatters who are feeling the pain.

Exasperating the issue is it’s no longer clear where accountability lies at city hall as this council is continuing a year’s long trend of not wanting to know details of how the municipality operates – a trajectory which is shifting into not being allowed to know.

Transparency is something you see with your eyes, not hear with your ears. As it turns out, members of this council who campaigned on increasing transparency have turned out to be willfully blind.
