Letter: Support helped carry local ICU staff through pandemic’s toughest moments

By Letter to the Editor on June 7, 2022.

To the communities of Medicine Hat/surrounding area and our fellow health-care colleagues:

These last couple of years have proven to be undoubtedly some of the hardest shifts that we have had to face. There have been tears, frustration and a whole team of passionate individuals questioning their purpose in their field. But with this pandemic, an intense and unbelievable support system has formed.

The amount of love and encouragement we have felt from this city has been the reason we have kept going. We are grateful for all the intentional practices in keeping both our team and our community safe. You have carried our people through, and for that we thank you.

Thank you for the food, the flowers, the presents, the caffeine and especially for the words to keep going.

To all of the incredible children who worked so hard writing us letters and drawing us pictures, you made us smile when we didn’t feel like it and you made us laugh when that’s exactly what we needed in those moments.

We are here to continue to fight for our community and to strengthen the network of health-care members who have grown into an unstoppable family.

Let’s keep working together to care for each other, through our choices of kindness and understanding.

From the bottom of our hearts we thank you,

Your nurses of ICU at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital
