Letter: Constitution should apply to those living, but not yet born

By Letter to the Editor on June 2, 2022.

Dear editor,

Cash Moore (who usually makes a lot of sense) is probably right in saying there is no worry about Canada restricting access to abortion (while we worry about an aging population). However, it is questionable to allege that restricting abortion is unconstitutional.

The constitution, if observed as it should be, guarantees Canadians the rights to life, liberty and personal security – with no stated age limit.

It’s a shame to supposedly civilized countries that these rights are not extended to the smallest individuals, living but not yet born, though most modern societies don’t seem to mind the shame.

Also questionable is Mr. Moore’s assertion that Canada’s Supreme Court is non-partisan. Some of the judges deem it their duty to rule according to their own concepts of justice, duly enacted legislation notwithstanding.
