Letter: Premier Kenney’s expertise

By Letter to the Editor on March 2, 2022.

Dear editor,

In 1997, Kenney was elected to the House of Commons. He served prominent roles in the Shadow Cabinet, such as deputy house leader for the Official Opposition, critic for Canada-United States relations, critic for national revenue and critic for finance.

He has served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister of Canada, minister of citizenship and immigration, retaining responsibility for multiculturalism. He introduced Discover Canada, a new citizenship guide for prospective citizens. He took steps to restore full citizenship to Canadian nationals who had “fallen through the cracks.” Kenney announced the government intends to revoke the citizenship of 1,800 people it believes obtained their status through fraudulent means. He also implemented a conditional permanent residency status to ensure that a spouse or partner had to live as husband and wife for a minimum of two years with their Canadian sponsor-spouse, or else they would have their status revoked.

With all of his experience and knowledge, why was it necessary to hire Dr. Janice MacKinnon, former Saskatchewan minister of finance, to head a “Blue Ribbon Committee” to review Alberta’s finances? At what cost to the taxpayer? Were our own premier and our finance minister and his committee incapable? Our 23 ministers are paid a combined base salary of $4,163,000.

Kenney travelled to Ontario and to Manitoba campaigning for Scheer and rallying support for the Conservative campaign. Who paid for the flights?

He Implemented a “War Room” with a budget of $30 million, while cutting HALO’s and freezing of AISH.
