Letter: Protest that hurts others in any way should be unacceptable

By Letter to the Editor on February 10, 2022.

Dear editor,

Scott Schmidt is absolutely right in his Feb. 5 column calling out MLA Michaela Frey for the thoughtless opposition to COVID restrictions and her support of the protesters who claim their goal is protection of freedom without regard for the cost of their actions to their fellow citizens.

With freedom comes responsibility, and this is being overlooked by Frey and the protesters she endorses.

We elected Frey to look out for the interests of all of her constituents, the weak and infirm as well as those who have the strength to look out for themselves which the protesters are.

By siding with the protesters, Frey is saying it is acceptable for some of her constituents to act in a manner hurtful to other constituents. Protest that hurts anyone should never be acceptable. For an MLA to advocate protest that hurts anyone should never be acceptable.

The only people shown getting hurt so far was the protesters being attacked and disband by the police. Lets see, this is probably the largest peaceful protest in Canadas history and after weeks of protesting there was no apparent violent outbreaks, no riots, no property damage and the event was filled with families and children, yet if you watch MSM these last weeks you would think it was world war 3. Open your eyes people, stop letting your COVID FEAR to allow the government to revoke your human rights. If you are going to condemn Frey for supporting this protest are you also going to condemn Trudeau for supporting BLM protests? or Indian Farmer protests? Give your head a shake!
