Dear editor, A poem by Marlene E. Purvis SINS AGAINST THE INNOCENT – (Thu Jul 01, 2021) the tragic loss of innocence of childhood forcefully removed from their homes their families and their loved ones indigenous families robbed of their freedom of their right to choose of their right for family of their right for their beliefs of their right to their language assimilation forced upon each child physical, mental and sexual abuse sickness and disease, lack of care all in the name of political control those who inflicted the pain where was their empathy, their compassion? did they not care or consider the outcome? or were they too self-righteous? did they ever feel remorse? did they ever feel regret? did they ever feel like crying? did they ever feel self-loathing? the trauma those little ones felt the futility of ever feeling safe the sadness and the extreme loneliness the overwhelming sense of helplessness copyright © 2021 Marlene E Purvis Today my thoughts and prayers are with and have been with everyone of these poor innocent souls who were so wrongly and tragically mistreated and traumatized by those of whom most of us would trust and look up to for love, guidance, hope, kindness and tenderness!
