Letter: Mayor owes an apology after using ‘callous, heartless’ term

By Letter to the Editor on June 16, 2021.

Dear Editor,

This week the MHNews contained an article speaking to the achievement of “functionally zero” for homelessness. That is amazing. Within the article, our mayor is quoted as saying “… because some people see ‘undesirables’ and assume they are homeless,” in regards to the homeless population. Using the term “undesirables” is callous, heartless and adds to the stigma some people in our community deal with on a day to day basis. I am appalled at this comment and believe our “leader” owes citizens of this city an apology.

Someone needs to remind the mayor that most people consider a drunk that drives as undesirable.
If he thinks his addiction to booze cannot take him to the gutter of Hell, I can introduce him to hundreds of people that held greater status in society than him.
