Deep concerns over maternity closure

By Letter to the Editor on October 23, 2020.

Dear editor,

We have learned of the imminent closure of our local maternity clinic.

As parents and grandparents, we are extremely concerned about the dire situation this leaves our precious moms and babies in.

What is to come of regular examination to determine abnormalities or concerns during the long months of pregnancy? What of the simple and complex realities that occur regularly during pregnancy, often addressed at our current clinic?

So many lives have been positively impacted through the incredible efforts of the local doctors committed to sharing this critical care.

Will our community, which includes many rural areas, be left without the ability to responsibly treat the many potential complications. How many lives must be sacrificed to ensure budgets can be met?

At what point do we finally realize people are our resources.

You have been entrusted with assuring access to health for each and every Albertan.

Explain leaving our future, our babies, in this awful precarious situation.

You must do better.
