Letter: Face masks should be mandated in Medicine Hat

By Letter to the Editor on September 25, 2020.

The potential influence of local mask survey results are concerning.

Many older citizens, and others not online, were unable to participate in the recent Chamber of Commerce survey, where results did not favor mandating mask wearing.

The smaller Medicine Hat News survey results do not agree with the COC results, and in fact are entirely opposite, with 47 per cent favoring the use of masks.

However, these results are also concerning because only online subscribers could vote. Advice from the experts must prevail here, and our safety protocols should not be influenced by such survey results.

Mask wearing should be mandated to protect everyone during this pandemic based on tragic outcomes elsewhere, where such obvious safety protocols were ignored and only accepted and imposed as a last-minute resort!

Finally, I am left wondering just how much influence mandating mask wearing in Lethbridge may have contributed to their two active COVID cases, compared to our 10, as reported in the News Thursday.

And how are our seniors without a smart phone supposed to order a bus for their trip to the mall foodcourt?

I completely agree Gordon Briosi!!
The COC survey certainly is not an accurate representation of Medicine Hat voices and should not play a part in any decision making, by anyone, with regards to mask wearing.
When will our mayor finally step up and do the RIGHT thing, which has been proven to help keep people protected and mandate mask wearing?!

JoJo, our mayor is deathly afraid of confrontation especially with the minority of the city’s population!
