Something missing in MLA Report from Drew Barnes

By Letter to the Editor on February 28, 2020.

Drew Barnes’ MLA Report fails to mention that the UCP provincial corporate tax reduction program implemented last summer has not brought any new jobs to Alberta. A further corporate tax reduction is planned for 2020. The reduction of corporate tax income is not proving beneficial to Albertans, and is in fact increasing our tax burden while reducing services at the same time – a double whammy. The UCP would be wise to implement some stringent rules before any further tax reductions, such as directly connecting any tax reduction to job creation.

I learned very early in my financial career that cutting taxes did nothing to create jobs and was used by politicians as an excuse to help fill their rich friends pockets with taxpayers money. Think about it, the only thing that creates jobs is an increase in the volume of business that the corporation is involved in and has nothing to do with taxes.
