SARC does wonderful work for many

By Letter to the Editor on October 31, 2019.

I have been writing letters to the editor for a long time now. When I first started I belonged to an organization called Mood Disorders. Mood Disorders was a peer support group for people for mental health consumers and I belonged from 1996 to 2008. In this 12-year period I got to know a lot of people, and this is the reason why I still sit on many boards advocating for that population.

I bring this up because on Oct. 26 SARC (Sexual Assault Response Committee) had its first annual gala which I attended as a director. I thought back to some of the people I knew in Mood Disorders most of who suffered childhood trauma either sexual, physical or emotional. I how it would have been wonderful to have something like SARC back then with the wonderful services we now have. I think about the Child Advocacy Centre which will help children and their families work through trauma so that maybe future mental illness will be prevented. If you want to know more about SARC and its services go to mhsarc.com
