Destruction of Tweed House a tragic loss

By Letter to the Editor on September 27, 2019.

Re: “Historic home brought down,” Sept. 24

It is a profound sadness for us and to the many people of this city ro see the Tweed House come down. It appears all the efforts and the coverage were in vain.

It is a sorry state when the City of Medicine Hat does not have a strong sense of historical preservation, like many cities across Canada, to prevent significant historical homes from being destroyed.

In ending, I would like to quote our daughter-in-law, Genevieve Bourdon, saying to us: “It is a tragic loss! A labour of love, a thing of beauty, restored history: all gone!”

It says it all.

Medicine Hat has a history of extreme stupidity when comes to preserving historic sites. The Tweed house was a gem but the developers were too cheap and lazy to work with the existing facade. Money talks.
City Hall, of course, was not there, as usual.

I agree. it was a beautiful house, such a shame city hall didn’t intervene to save it.
