Guns being treated differently that other potentially harmful items

By Letter to the Editor on August 21, 2019.

Our elected officials of all three levels, ably assisted by their bloated bureaucracies, have been bandying numbers around regarding gun control. Basically guns are bad therefore they should be banned. Now most of us are well aware that both sides are capable of playing with the numbers.

So I am looking at the topic differently. If guns are bad for Canadians and should be banned, how come all the politicians are supporting the sale and distribution of alcohol which killed at least 100 and severely injured 540 Canadians last year? Or tobacco which apparently leads to various cancers and or heart issues which kill 45,000 a year?

The Liberals with the support of the provinces have legalized marijuana use and are also proponents of supervised consumption sites. Street drugs, heroin, methadone, morphine, OxyContin, etc. all kept out of the hands of children and only used in safe, secure locations of course. However 4,460 people died from street drugs last year.

Maybe politicians and their minions are taking both the blue and the red pills (apologies to “The Matrix”) and others.
