Kenney, UCP should listen respectfully

Re: “UCP literally plugs ears to bill debate,” June 21

Less than 12 hours after Premier Jason Kenney’s earplug stunt, veteran Canadian broadcaster Anna-Maria Tremonti presented her last radio program as host of “The Current.”

AMT (as she is known) identified the most important thing she had learned from conducting more than 13 000 interviews.

“Listen,” she said. Listen to those from all over the political spectrum. Invest your energy in listening more than in speaking.

On the campaign trail, Kenney promised to restore dignity and decorum to the Legislature. Now he hands out earplugs to his caucus during debate.

Albertans would be better served if our premier followed Tremonti’s advice, unplugged his own ears and those of his caucus, and listen respectfully to voices other than his own.
