One particular emissions emitter not mentioned often

By Letter to the Editor on May 28, 2019.

The more I hear about pollution being emitted, causing climate change (which is true) – from motor scooters to industrial pollution, to war machines like tanks, artillery and fighter jets – the more I wonder why no one has mentioned the millions of tonnes of pollution from the millions of air passenger flights. The blanket of pollution must be so think it could be cut with a butter knife. Is there even a way to measure the amount of emissions being injected into our atmosphere from these flights?

There is no exhaust pipe that takes the heavy load of pollution beyond our atmosphere and into space far out beyond the sun. The time is now for scientists the world over to give priority to exploring a new source of non-polluting power such as magnetic, atomic, solar or some other innovative creation.

If we don’t take pollution seriously enough we could soon choke on our own technology. We must take action immediately or the present arguments and consternation regarding climate change will pass into history as a mere blip.

What really concerns me is there are so many politicians with tunnel vision, concentrating on the short view instead of looking at and exploring the whole picture. Perhaps they could use more peripheral vision.

I don’t advocate that we cancel all air flights, just that we find a new source of power. We must take pollution seriously enough to encourage everyone to do more to clean up our air.
