Sketchy numbers from local representatives

By Letter to the Editor on May 8, 2019.

Re: “Barnes disappointed as he’s left off Kenney’s cabinet,” May 1 and “Mayor ‘frustrated’ at cabinet snub for Barnes,” May 2

The mental image immediately appears of Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA Barnes standing in a corner, arms crossed huffily, trying not to cry. Yet he was offered a role which he declined. Had he accepted and proven himself a team player, he might have been subsequently rewarded. At the very least, he should learn to subtract a number from 100 and get the right answer.

The next day, Mayor Ted Clugston declares that “We are the furthest point away from Edmonton.” Medicine Hat is 435 kilometres away. The town of High Level in the provincial riding of Peace River is 596 km away. 596 is greater than 435.

One of our guys can’t add and another, whose grasp of his province’s geography is sketchy, can’t order numbers from least to greatest. The mayor can go to the corner with his buddy Barnes, who always answers the mayor’s calls, and give him a big hug.

There must be something in the water in the forgotten corner for the electorate to continue to choose such representatives.
