How is empty greenspace costing the city money?

Re: “City land sale plan strikes nerve at Connaught open house,” Sept. 7

Is the city treasury in such poor shape that the sale of a piece of greenspace will make a difference?

Where is the sense in the city spending $100,000 irrigating this space in 2017 only to rip it up in 2018? How is an empty green area costing the city money?

To quote the mayor, “It could be a lightning rod.” I take that to mean the city coffers are in such poor shape that before the next municipal election all the city parks will come up for sale.

Joni Mitchell was right: “Pave paradise, put up a parking lot … “
