Christians being persecuted into extinction

By Letter to the Editor on September 13, 2018.

Re: “Why do social media users choose to intentionally add to someone’s pain?,” Sept. 8

I want to direct a few facts to the statement made by Mr. Mueller: The favourite target these days seems to be immigrants from Muslim countries. Could it be possible that the verses of Islam from the Qur’an to hate and murder Christians and Jews cause suspicion and contempt?

Let’s take a minute to look at some indisputable facts (Mr. Mueller has conveniently forgotten):

From 1948 to 2012 more than 1.6 million Jews from the Muslim Arab world were expelled, had property seized or were murdered.

The number of Christians from Muslim countries were reduced from 13.6 per cent in 1910 to 4.2 per cent in 2015.

A mass exodus of Christians is currently underway. Millions of Christians are being displaced from one end of the Islamic world to the other.

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom recently said: “The flight of Christians out of the region is unprecedented and it’s increasing year by year.” In our lifetime alone “Christians might disappear altogether from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Egypt.”

In October 2012 the last Christian in the Syrian city of Homs — which had a Christian population of some 80,000 before Jihadis came — was murdered. One teenage Syrian girl said: “We left because they were trying to kill us … because we were Christians … They were our neighbours turned against us. At the end, when we ran away, leaving everything behind we were running to survive!

This same story repeats itself in Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Africa, and European nations with Muslim majorities, Christians are fleeing.

To anyone following the plight of Christians under Islamic persecution, none of this is surprising.

All around the Islamic world — in nations that do not share the same race, language, culture or economics, in nations that share only Islam —Christians are being persecuted into extinction.

So Mr. Mueller perhaps your diatribe against the “favourite target these days seems to be immigrants from Muslim countries” has no basis and facts are facts
