Only one stepped up to apply for the nomination

This is not so much of a letter as it is a short clarification response to a letter published on Aug. 3, “Cypress-Medicine Hat voters face interesting question at the polls,” by Mr. Larry Samcoe. There are a few, unintentional I am sure, inaccurate claims made in his letter regarding the UCP’s candidate selection process for Cypress-Medicine Hat. The UCP did hold a candidate selection for this riding as they have for all 87 ridings due to be contested in 2019. A nomination committee (NC) was duly formed and all eligible party members in good standing were invited to submit an application package over a two-week period to apply for the nomination. At the end of that two-week period only one candidate, Mr. Drew Barnes, had submitted a complete package within the specified time. As such a short interview was conducted on behalf of the nominating committee by the committee chair (myself) with the candidate. He was found to be in good standing and was duly acclaimed as our candidate. If another, or several, potential candidates had submitted applications in good order then the NC would have moved to interview and vet all candidates and proceeded to have held a nomination election campaign similar to the campaigns currently being held in other ridings by the respective UCP constituency nomination committees across the province. I hope this helps clarify any misunderstandings that Mr. Samcoe has about the recent nomination process in Cypress-Medicine Hat. Being as Mr. Samcoe was a former contestant for the Wildrose nomination in Cypress-Medicine Hat I do find his vocal support for an NDP incumbent to be slightly out of sync with his former professed political views. Fortunately come the 2019 election any NDP candidate fighting for Brooks-Medicine Hat or Cypress-Medicine Hat will have two formidable UCP opponents to face in Mr. Drew Barnes and Miss Michaela Glasgo. Apparently Drew Barnes , the guy who was fined $15,000. by his own party, hasn’t gotten the message like so many others have. Their supporters are saying they will vote the traitors out just like was done in the last election. They didn’t want the merger. While Brian Jean vowed that he wouldn’t join with Conservatives, claiming his party was different he was making plans behind closed doors with his buddy Jason Kenney both Reformers from the Harper government, just like Danielle Smith and Jim Prentice did and you know what happened to them.
