Hateful pamphlets, posters don’t represent Medicine Hat

By Letter to the Editor on August 1, 2018.

In response to the recent hate-speech which tarnished cars and church doors in some neighbourhoods in Medicine Hat, one thing needs to be made clear: Newcomer populations, immigrants, refugees and minority populations are all welcomed community members. You are our community members and this racist narrative has no place in our community. The actions of a few do not represent the climate of Medicine Hat and to all those affected by these gross demonstrations of racist ideology, I am truly sorry.

We all have much to gain from newcomer knowledge, from the diversification of our economy and society, to encouraging our children to understand the unique paths and ways of knowing which exist outside their own homes, to narrowing the chasms between cultures, countries, and languages as relationships are built strengthening the mortar of our wonderfully evolving mosaic. We are glad you are here! So welcome to your community, we look forward to learning and working alongside you.
