The stigma for addicts should be a thing of the past

By Letter to the Editor on March 16, 2018.

Some people wonder why their taxes are paying for a drug addict’s next fix. It is called harm reduction.

Instead of an addict getting their next fix alone where they might die they do it with a replacement drug therapy and wraparound services. This way the government hopes fewer people will die. However if there is stigma against drug addicts this is probably still seen as a waste of money. Of course we know that the opioid crisis is hitting everyone and stigma should be a thing of the past.
